Search Tips

What is Searched?

If you are having problems finding the information you need the following tips and hints may help.
  • The search looks at the organisation title, the information section, the subject group and the local district in which organisation is based.
  • If the keyword you choose is included in any of these areas, the entry will be included in your results list.
  • The search does not search contact details information.

Why Were There No Results for My Search?

The search only finds exact matches for the words you include in the search box. Searches for garden will not find gardening. These words must be included in the information details, geographical area or subject sections. Check your spelling or try an alternative word to see if this improves the results.

The search will look for all the words you have used to be present in the entry. You may have used too many keywords - try taking a word out or try reducing the number of keyword used and you may be more successful.

Why Did I Get a Long List of Results?

You may have used too few keywords - try adding an extra word to make the search more accurate.

Some of the Results Listed had Nothing to do with the Topic I was Searching For?

You may have searched using a word, which features heavily in the information section of a large number of records. To avoid this, use the A-Z subject list.

You may also have used the name of a district in your search (eg Sedgefield). Try to include more words to make the search more specific.
