Disability Information Network

The Disability Information Network is designed to provide information on a variety of disabilities. It has been set up to provide both social care staff and the general public with information to assist in the caring for an individual with a disability. Its aim is to enable service users and their relatives (or carers) to access high quality, up to date, relevant information on a range of related topics.

This information service has been established in conjunction with the Knowledge Centre at Walkergate Park Newcastle; a centre for Neuro-rehabilitation and Neuro-Psychiatry. The Knowledge Centre was established by the Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Trust and with the help of a generous grant from the MS Society; holds most of the publications produced by them.

The information below gives details of the other useful links which can be accessed either through the links on the Knowledge Centre website or by clicking on the relevant link on this page. These are:

Neuro Support - this organisation supports individuals and their families affected by neurological conditions. This links provides an A-Z of neurological conditions.

Head Way – is a charity that supports people with brain injury and those who care for them. The link holds information and access to a variety of information on such topics as brain injury and epilepsy, effects of brain injury, coma after brain injury, communication problems, psychological effects and memory problems.

MS Society – This link provides a new guide to MS centres around the UK as well as useful information from a national perspective.

Multiple Sclerosis Trust - is a UK charity providing information for anyone affected by multiple sclerosis. It provides information on education programmes for health professionals and funding for practise research.

MS North of England Region – outlines the work of the North of England Partnership Forum. This forum supports health and social care professionals as well as commissioners, PCT’s etc in promoting best practice in MS services. This aims to support professionals at a local level. It also links to a professional network which exchanges information on good practice in treatment and care, provides training and education resources, publishes news letters and reports. There is advice for professionals on research, service audit and service development and a list of events for professionals.

It is anticipated that the information on other disabilities will be added to this page. If you wish to have any relevant information placed on this page please contact Maureen Stansfield on 07920073467.
